Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Southside Elementary School, a community that cares about YOU! We believe in strong curriculum and providing a safe and purposeful learning environment. We have high expectations for all students and want each student to reach their full potential. We believe that students should be proud to attend Southside Elementary School.
At Southside Elementary School we strive to create an atmosphere which builds lifelong and positive attitudes towards school and learning. This year our focus has been on introducing students to S.T.E.A.M. (S-Science, T-Technology, E-Engineering, A-Art, M-Mathematics). All students receive an hour of art instruction each week. All teachers create and teach a multi-age “STEAM Project” class each Thursday afternoon. And, teachers are incorporating “Engineering is Elementary” units into their classroom instruction.
These activities have deepened our commitment to STEAM! Student enthusiasm for learning is evident. Parents and community partners have volunteered more hours than ever before. PTA members unanimously voted to recommend we continue STEAM. Eight homeschool students are able to participate in our art class and STEAM Projects.
Close cooperation between home and school is essential. We encourage you to visit the school often and to attend conferences and events. A meaningful exchange of information between us benefits everyone. You are encouraged to assist in the classroom, support a STEAM project, or join our PTA.
Sincerely,
Jacque Johnson, Principal

You and your child can walk around the school building and meet this year’s new teacher, and say hello to last year’s teacher. Thank you in advance for helping us keep kids off the playground for this event. It’s been almost six months since we’ve seen our students. We look forward to sharing time...answering questions, providing information...we’re here for you! 4:30-6:30 this Thursday. |
